SKETCH: Super Supper (Co-Filmic Edition)
Don't worry, it isn't a blog glitch. This is the second sketch I have posted with the same title. Last week I posted the Super Supper sketch for the 50 Kisses screenwriting competition. I had a couple of ideas the way that the script could go. I liked them both. Unfortunately, only one really fit in with the theme of Love, as per the 50 Kisses brief, so I submitted the last one to the competition.
But that left me with another idea, and another sketch to write. I suppose I could have called it comething different, but it still has a similar premise, so I left it the way it is. I thought that I would try and submit this to this month's Sketch In The City night at 3MT Theatre in Manchester run by Co-Filmic. So that's what I did. And because I don't have time to write up my improv gig 7 report before my self imposed deadline (Tuesday night at 11:59pm), I thought that I would post the second version of the sketch.
Feel free to have a read and let me know what you think. Hell, you can even tell me which version of the sketch you preferred, which would make me some sort of comedy optician. Is it 1, or 2:
A DARK STAGE - just audio
The sound of HIGH HEELS walking down the street.
The sound of a CAR traveling fast.
The SCREAM of a WOMAN.
MASKED HERO (VO)
I'll save you.A Super Hero Sound Effect and the day is saved.
WOMAN (VO)
The Masked Hero! I've always wanted to meet a super hero. I can't thank you enough. I'm Kelly. How can I repay you?MASKED HERO (VO)
Well, ma'am, I'm just doing my duty for the good folks of this city.KELLY (VO)
Have you eaten?A DINING ROOM - LATER
Lights come up and we see KELLY and the MASKED HERO are sat at a table. The table is set for romance. A two person romance. CAPTAIN CHAOS is on the table covered in strategically placed banana leaves and sushi. (Like Nyotaimori). They are eating sushi from him with chopsticks, slowly and awkwardly.
MASKED HERO
Well, this is super awkward.CAPTAIN CHAOS
You only popped out for a pint of milk for the dessert. I wished you'd said you were bringing back company. And worse than that, you bring back my arch nemesis back to my house on out anniversary and allow him to eat sushi from my abs.KELLY
He saved my life.CAPTAIN CHAOS
But you knew that I was here like this on the table before you went out. I thought that you were killing the mood by nipping to the shops...MASKED HERO
And so I finally track you down, Captain Chaos.CAPTAIN CHAOS
And do you know how expensive it is to keep moving to a new secret lair every time he tracks me down? Didsbury is expensive.KELLY
You never mentioned this before, sweetie.MASKED HERO
Ha. (shakes head) Sweetie.CAPTAIN CHAOS
(ignoring Masked Hero)
That's because I always strive to keep my work life and private life separate.MASKED HERO
Well, you did a good job of that. All those years of battling one another and I didn't even know you’re straight. So what have you been up to since I last defeated your last evil scheme to hijack a boat load of nuclear weapons.CAPTAIN CHAOS
I met Kelly through work.MASKED HERO
A kidnapping?KELLY
Of course not. We were on the Assistant Manager training scheme at Asda.MASKED HERO
You work at Asda?CAPTAIN CHAOS
Evil Geniusing doesn't bring in the money like it used to. Not with economy the way it is. I started off as a greeter, but apparently I was scaring away the customers.KELLY
He didn't scare me.CAPTAIN CHAOS
And that's when we fell in love.MASKED HERO
I think I'm going to be sick. (nauseous) Masked Hero, away.The Masked Hero exits.
CAPTAIN CHAOS
That's it! Finally after all these years, I defeated my nemesis. And it was all thanks to love.Captain Chaos makes a move to hold Kelly’s hand.
KELLY
(nauseous)
And ill prepared sushi.Kelly exits.
CAPTAIN CHAOS
Come back, my love. I have a surprise for you under this banana leaf.
